Like many hopeful parents struggling to conceive a child, Daljinder Kaur and her husband sought fertility treatment in September 2014.
But here’s the thing: Daljinder was in her seventies. Her husband was 80. And the pair had been married without children for nearly 50 years.
“I used to feel empty. There was so much loneliness,” Daljinder told the Agence France-Presse. “I had lost hope of becoming a mother ever.” Finally, after a long family feud had been resolved, Daljinder embarked on her mission to have a baby. It took a lot of convincing and determination, but the elderly woman convinced fertility doctors to treat her with rounds of IVF… and after two years and three rounds, it worked. Daljinder gave birth to her son, Arman, on April 19, 2016, without any complications — and she instantly became one of the world’s oldest mothers. As if a natural birth weren’t surprising enough, Daljinder also breastfed her son for months. One year later, the press caught up with Daljinder, who admitted motherhood was harder than she expected, but she and her husband had no regrets. Her dream came true.
